On the 23rd and 24th of June, Coopera 2022, the National Conference on Development Cooperation in Rome
The second edition of Coopera, the National Conference on Development Cooperation, convened by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, in accordance with law 125/2014, will be held on the 23rd and 24th of June at the Auditorium della Conciliazione in Rome, and will be focused on the 5 P’s of 2030 Agenda.
Coopera 2022 will serve as a meeting and dialogue platform for all stakeholders in the Italian cooperation system. It will be an opportunity to bring together a representation of the thousands of Italians who work every day in Italy and around the world to help people in need, build sustainable development projects, strengthen local communities, promote women’s and young people’s rights and opportunities in low-income countries, and prevent conflicts. Everyone is welcome to participate in these discussions and commitments!
Within the various Panels on the programme, the P’s of Peace, People, Prosperity, Planet, and Partnership will be the main focus of discussions and debates. Five primary categories, spawned by the UN 2030 Agenda, are interconnected and, ideally, will provide a gauge of the state of development cooperation and the paths forward, especially in light of two events that have distinguished the last two years: the pandemic and the conflict in Ukraine.
The Conference Program is the result of close consultation with all Italian Cooperation actors, beginning with civil society organisations and their representative networks (AOI, CINI, and Link2007), and including the National Council for Development Cooperation. The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, will deliver the opening speech, which will be followed by an opening session, thematic panels and other side activities, demonstrating the significance of the event. Co-opera Talks, fast and incisive statements focusing on unique experiences and ideas, will open and close the panels. There will also be several Side Events on the topics of Global Citizenship Education, Peace, Emergency and Security, Policy Coherence for Development, the role of the private sector, disability, and impact finance, all of which will be promoted and implemented directly by civil society organisations. Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI) will also organise a meeting on religion’s role in accomplishing the 2030 Agenda.
These two days in Rome will bring together the protagonists of Italian Cooperation, including cooperators, volunteers, university representatives, and business leaders, to discuss the most pressing issues with the highest representatives of Italian and international institutions, ranging from food insecurity to poverty, wars and the climate emergency, pandemics, inequalities, and human rights violations. Speakers will include the Cardinal Secretary of State of the Vatican, Pietro Parolin, the European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen, the Italian Minister of the Interior, Luciana Lamorgese, the Italian Minister of Economy and Finance, Daniele Franco, the Italian Minister for Ecological Transition, Roberto Cingolani, and the Executive Director of UNICEF, Catherine Russel, in addition to Minister Di Maio and the Italian Deputy Minister in Charge of International Cooperation, Marina Sereni.
Coopera 2022 is available to the public and all persons who want to learn more about the importance and goals of development cooperation. Please register online on this website to attend the main meetings and the different Side Events.
